Throughout history red hair has been viewed in many ways, often causing those with this comparatively rare colouring to be considered as 'other’. Whether as demons, witches, sorcerers or seductresses, historically those with red hair often held magical influence over those with ‘normal’ hair and had to be treated with caution if not outright avoided. Although, in reality, hair colour doesn’t tell us anything about a person, it can end up be a defining characteristic due to the traits it is perceived to embody.
